What it is
For about 10 years Russian propaganda presented Tsirkon as a unique hypersonic missile with a ramjet engine. According to a HUR report, as summarised by Defense Express, there is no such engine: after the booster an ordinary solid-fuel motor takes over, and HUR plainly calls the missile ballistic. The warhead is only 120 kg.
The speed of over Mach 5 recorded by radar is real, though. That is why Tsirkon has its own colour on the map but behaves like a ballistic missile.
What it means for you
There is little time between launch and impact, and no heading. If you hear “Tsirkon”, go to a shelter immediately.

What to do
- 1When you hear the “Air raid alert!” signal, go to the nearest shelter at once. Find out in advance where it is near your home and work.
- 2If you cannot reach a shelter, move to a room without windows and follow the “two walls” rule.
- 3Agree with your family on what to do and where to meet if the phone network or the power goes down.
A marker on our map may appear late or not at all. Go by the siren, not by the map.
